Kitchen Makeover: Progress

I have been busily getting stuck in to my 'Kitchen Mini Makeover' over the holiday period.  It is on it's way to becoming what I envisioned.

Paint Cabinets
Put up open shelves
New brass Hinges for cupboard doors
New brass pulls for drawers
New Ceramic Handles for cupboard doors
The Ceramic handles have been ordered and will hopefully arrive by next week.  I bought these from Ebay.
Make a blind for the window
I have found the fabric that I would like to use and am going to make a roman blind this week.
Put up some art
Have a few ideas of what I may do to add some interest to the back white wall of the kitchen

Just a reminder these were my inspiration photo's:
And this was my kitchen before:

The cupboards were quite damaged, chipped and scratched.  I took the handles off and sanded them back with the electric sander, to smooth them out.  Then applied wood filler to all the chips, scratches and the holes left from the door handles and re-sanded.

I decided to paint everything above the bench white and fresh and the lower cupboards indigo blue. I also refreshed the grouting between the tiles on the bench to make it white.

I bought the brass draw pulls for $10 each from Early Settler.  I love the way the gold looks against the blue.  The hinges were $3 each from Bunnings Warehouse.
Progress:
I installed open shelves on this side of the window to add interest to the wall and to display some of my favorite kitchen items.
The blue that I used for the lower cupboards is PPG Architectural Coatings 'Oriental Night'.
The white I used in the kitchen is Resene 'Alabaster'.
I am hoping to be finished by the end of next week, I will keep you posted.

Do you like color in your kitchen, or are you more of an all white kind of person?

Love Yels xox

  3. That looks fantastic. Happy NY Yels. I am definitely a colour gal, we have one kitchen wall painted in hot pink chalkboard paint! I love your blue. Am thinking about painting the wall behind our bed in a deep indigo blue, but have to find the right colour. x

  5. It looks great! I love that color blue you chose. I am a bit fan of white, but not ALL white. The accent color is definitely gorgeous.
    Good luck!

  11. The blue and brass is perfection! It makes a world of difference. And the open shelving makes it so open and airy. Great job! Just found you through My Best Friend Craig!

  12. Wow, I love the progress, Yels! The Blue Indigo really surprised me. And I’m glad that you are able to turn your inspiration to reality. Anyway, the white kitchen is appealing for me, but I’m very much open to some suggestions.
